Jeff Hanneman, guitarist and founding member of the thrash metal band Slayer whose career was irrevocably changed after a spider bite, died Thursday of liver failure at a Los Angeles hospital with his wife by his side, according to spokeswoman Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald.
